If there’s so much being done to fix things, why are we still complaining?

Pros

Unlimited PTO is standard but basically a farce

Cons

Who doesn’t love a place where butts in seats is a motto, daily 8:30AM meetings to prove you’re online, and if your zoom background looks different, you’ll get peppered with questions as to why you’re embracing remote work life; but really why aren’t you at your desk working? All the recent bad reviews are extremely accurate, and I can vouch that nothing has changed in the last month since the launch of the inquisition to find out who spilled our dirty laundry. Team engagement is all time low, “management” empathy and willingness to try things differently is an all time low. You have managers sending nasty emails telling team members to basically be good puppets and participate to their expectations instead of working together with the team to foster and build better culture. In the last 6 months, we’ve had practically every decent middle management and supporting leaders leave, almost every two weeks. Everyone knows they leave for better culture and support that isn’t coming from the Director and above level (the money really doesn’t even matter). Also, who doesn’t love at least one creepy/entitled man in each role across the company to make you feel real uncomfortable, question how they’re still even here, and who allows their behavior to continue?

Red Flags

Pros

- There are some genuinely wonderful people working here - Only a tiny subset of executive leaders are actually good for the company - Unlimited PTO is nice when you can take it with a peace of mind - You will grow but a lot of that growth needs to be self-initiated and self-driven

Cons

The environment is unlike anything I have experienced before. Most of executive leadership only cares about hitting numbers and not enough on the employees and how they are being treated. There have been so many instances of unprofessionalism displayed and yet when people bring up concerns about certain people in leadership (based on the way they treat people, the things they say and how they say it, their actions, bullying, inappropriate relationships, the gossiping behind employees’ backs, micro aggressions) to HR “confidentially”, they are swept under the rug and not actually addressed. There’s no accountability. Everyone knows employee turnover rates have been high and there are always excuses thrown around to divert attention away from the glaring issues. Every department/team this year has lost their top performers. They don’t properly take the time to consider that the culture they’ve built, the low pay and the people leading some of these teams are the biggest reasons why people are leaving. Putting blame on other factors and the “attitudes” or “mindsets” of the individuals who are leaving/already left and none on themselves is not a good look - accept that there are glaring problems, own up to them and try to actually fix them.

Pros

Was a good job while it lasted, I enjoyed my work. I found it meaningful and am proud of my time and contributions to the company. Great team culture including the direct management and director. Access to learning and development platform, albeit little time to utilize (due to workloads) even though there was a 10% time to learn initiative. The health care benefits were average for the industry. I liked Cigna as my health insurance provider. Fidelity 401k Retirement Management is good. Matching is average. Vesting was changed to immediate vesting, which is very good. The tech platform, tools, processes, and code management were very good for the industry.

Cons

Wages: Lower wages than what is standard in the industry. Raises: Company raises were low and did not meet inflation. (2022 4%, 2023 1.9% , for reference this was at 100% performance goals). I got a 25% increase in salary after leaving this company to work somewhere else (comparable company). Cobra provider for 2024 changed to WEX (awful experience) Nepotism: Family members were hired and there were some political/favoritism issues in play causing conflicts in the organization. CTO had some personality conflicts with subordinates leading to the terminations of high-performing employees. 2023 - They have/are offshoring developer jobs to India.
