If you're looking for a startup that will give you opportunities to grow and develop your career, I recommend that you look elsewhere. New hires during my time at mabl consistently cited lack of mentorship and training as a problem. (pre-covid) It wasn't uncommon to see most people still working at their desks at 7pm or even 9pm. The founders have even asked people to come into the office on weekends to work several times. Unfortunately, your performance seemed to be measured, not by the work you contribute, but by how much the founders like you. After talking to each other, we discovered that women at the time were being paid $20K-$30K less than their male counterparts. There was an immense amount of pressure from the founders to drink alcohol at our weekly meetings. All of the founders' favorite stories about "company culture" were of people getting belligerently drunk. This drinking culture led to incidents in the office. Through 2019-2020, mabl had more than one incident of men being let go for sexually harassing women in the office. In one case, both founders were informed by multiple people of one man's comments towards women, and did nothing -- even told those who expressed concerns that they were not interpreting the man's words "with positive intent" (The comments to women were about their clothes, their bodies, and his body.) The founders continued trivializing concerns until a female employee (20s) came forward with screenshots and documentation of the man (40s-50s) making advances, then becoming retaliatory when he was asked to stop. I left mabl traumatized, for lack of a better word. I was being gaslit so hard by the founders that I questioned my perception of all the awful things that happened to people at mabl. Whether it was from being interrupted constantly, getting hazed by the founders as a part of company "bonding", being used as a token minority to show diversity, or being forced to work late nights and weekends because the founders told you to, a lot of people seem to have left mabl with the same feelings I have.
