Risky venture going forward

Pros

It is a highly collaborative culture where you can roll your sleeves up and take part in many different things. There is a lot of internal enthusiasm and excitement about the product and its direction. The culture and values have been good on paper, and only in the last year or so has the company followed those closer in practice. Previously they turned a blind eye to toxic behavior. I’m glad I spent some time at the company, but I would not recommend it to others going forward.

Cons

As with any company, if faith in the leadership does not exist then that has a trickle down effect. Certain leaders are still new in their roles and lack basic skills on how to treat people and empower other fellow leaders. There is/was tremendous instability in certain departments for a long time that has led to a struggle in the go to market strategy and subsequent execution. The total addressable market for additive, and the desired sales projections don’t really lineup, which makes working at nTopology a risky venture.

Poor Management - Run Away!

Pros

Free lunch on Wednesdays Nice office in downtown New York A product that works.

Cons

Condescending upper management. CEO plays favorites and won't listen to anyone other than them. Poor employee morale. Changes to variable compensation at end of month/quarter to benefit nTop at the expense of the employee.

Steer Clear

Pros

They have a way of attracting some of the most down-to-earth and genuinely decent human beings. The colleagues and friends I've made along the way are of the highest caliber. Some sales and CS leaders actually care while Execs could care less. CEO has always been great but seems to have taken his hands off the wheel a bit.

Cons

C-suite execs are running the company into the ground. Don't provide any real guidance on achieving targets or value on customer calls. Sales leadership has changed 3-4 times in the last 3 years and they never blame the lack of continuity or poor interim leadership for their poor performance. HR leader is terrible, says they are there to support employees and their career goals but could care less about any real career advancement and are only there to protect the company. Provided no warning to existing customers of a price change, moved the goalpost a few times now on what contracts qualify for support, and are nickel & diming what should be a basic functionality of the software. Many original nToppers that built the company have either been forced out or left. Their foothold on the industry and their customers is slipping and it's obvious.
