October 11th is National Coming Out Day, a day which was founded by two individuals, Jean O'Leary, a gay rights activist, and Richard Eichberg, a psychologist. Richard, from New Mexico, was also the founder of the personal growth workshop known as "The Experience," and unfortunately passed away back in 1995 due to complications from AIDs. Jean was a political leader from New York and at the time was the head of the National Gay Rights Advocates in Los Angeles. Founded in 1988, this day was chosen as it fell on the second anniversary of the major National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. The focus was to raise awareness of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and its civil rights movement as well as to maintain positivity and celebrate coming out. As Eichberg stated, the strongest tool for this human rights movement was in acknowledging that most people already know someone within the LGBTQ+ community and National Coming Out Day (NCOD) was to help draw attention to these individuals.

October 10th is World Mental Health Day. This day was founded by the awareness program organized by the World Federation for Mental Health, back in 1992. The World Federation for Mental Health originated in 1948 in London in hopes of raising awareness and changing perceptions of stigmas amidst a time period demonstrating insufficient care and misunderstanding. This year's theme is "Mental Health in an Unequal World." This topic is to emphasize that access to mental healthcare continues to be disproportionate and unequal as the majority of individuals with mental health disorders (75-95%) come from low to middle-income countries, unable to access services at all. Unfortunately, the gap in mental health treatment, promotion, prevention and care continues to grow with the lack of proper investment in mental health services, which has been occurring over the span of several decades. There is also a gap between the demand for mental health services and the supply.
