National Pink Day, (also referred to as National Pink Shirt Day) was Wednesday, February 23rd. National Pink Day was first created in 2007 in Canada after two students witnessed another male child being bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school. These two students, Davis Shepherd and Travis Price, decided that they would take a stand and encouraged everyone at school to wear a pink shirt to school the next day. To ensure everyone who wanted to could participate, they went to the discount store and purchased pink shirts in bulk to offer to those who didn't own one. Pink Shirt Day is ultimately about taking a collective stand against bullying and raising awareness. National Pink Day Facts: 🌸 In 2009, National Pink Day was adopted in New Zealand. Many other countries in the southern hemisphere quickly followed suit. 🌸 In 2012, the United Nations declared May 4th as the official Anti-Bullying Day. While this is a separate day from National Pink Day, the two share the same mission. 🌸 1 in 5 kids are affected by bullying. 🌸 Over 50,000 children have been impacted

President Lyndon B. Johnson established American Heart Month back in February 1964 through Proclamation 3566. Why does this matter? Cardiovascular disease, including stroke and heart disease, is the global leading cause of death and is highly preventable. In 2019, reports showed that in the decade preceding heart disease collectively took almost 19 million lives, an increase of over 17%. In 2019, over 500 million cases were reported, more than a 25% increase since 2010. American Heart month is both a time to think of those we've lost to heart disease, but also a time to reaffirm our commitment to prevention of this disease through on-going education and program development. There are several risk factors that can lead to heart disease and according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, half of all Americans have at least one of three key factors. These factors include a smoking history, high blood cholesterol and high blood pressure.
