Here at Allied Benefit Systems, we have a learning and development program known as IC (Innovation Curriculum) Select. To be a part of IC Select, employees must be nominated by executive leadership after consistently demonstrating the highest performance rating at the "superior" level for at least two consecutive performance years. The program is designed to create highly tailored individual development plans to help foster and continue to grow these individuals throughout their professional careers here at Allied. Once a member of this program, the employee will meet with the executive who nominated him or her along with an HR designee to outline the coming year learning roadmap, as the employee self-envisions. "Resolved: That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved," -Richard Henry Lee of Virginia. These words were the start of the Declaration of Independence, the very document that would lead to independence from England. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence and two days later it was adopted by all 13 colonies. The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson in partnership with John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman and William Livingston. Why did Colonists want separation from England in the first place? Colonies were displeased with the increased British control on the United States of America. Many examples of this came through in taxes and unpopular laws, such as the Sugar Act, also known as the Plantation Act or Revenue Act, the Stamp Act and the Intolerable Acts.
