As part of our 100th-anniversary countdown celebrations, today we announced a $200,000 donation to grow food system resiliency through the Pennsylvania Farm Bill Urban Agriculture Infrastructure Grant program. Our VP of Omnichannel Merchandising David Lessard joined Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding at York Fresh Food Farms in York, Pa., to present the donation and learn more about the farm's efforts to improve food access in its community as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's sixth annual PA Urban Ag Week. At the event, York Fresh Food Farm Manager Bruce Manns said it best: "We just want to get food to people who need it." As a community grocer, we share this mission. However, we also realize there are food system gaps that prevent equal access to foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables, which is why we continue to partner with community leaders and vendor partners to grow our food system for all.
In honor of National Sugar Cookie Day on July 9th, we're teaming up with Aspire Bakeries to benefit our longtime partner, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Check out the video below starring Becky White, bakery manager of our Enola, PA, GIANT, and Penn State Health Children's Hospital Miracle Child Champion Benjamin Grumbine to see how we're changing children's lives with one SWEET act of kindness at a time!
Our #Pride Month celebrations continue as we highlight a few of our favorite #LGBTQ+-owned brands, all available in our stores and online. Peanut Butter & Co.’s story began in 1998 when founder Lee Zalben started a shop that served nothing but peanut butter sandwiches; today, the company has dozens of flavorful butters, spreads, and cookies made from simple, honest ingredients. Matthew Meehan and Rod Hildebrant created ShineWater® in 2015 with health professionals to deliver meaningful amounts of the nutrients your body needs most, like your daily requirement of Vitamin D in every bottle. Kombucha maker GT's Living Foods has been family owned and operated since 1995. Its purpose is personal, and each day, founder GT Dave and his team work to spread the message that food can be medicine and, through purposeful nutrition, one can heal thyself—and, therefore, the world.
