It was a beautiful day to open a store, so that's exactly what we did! Philadelphia's newest GIANT - our 9th store in the city if you're keeping track - is now open at the corner of North Broad and Spring Garden! It's an incredible store featuring our signature produce, meat, and seafood departments, a full beer and wine offering, fresh, made in-store sushi, Starbucks, and GIANT Direct. But what really makes the store stand out is its fantastic team members, ready to do all that they can to connect families for a better future. To store manager Kevin Bane and the entire team, congratulations! And a special thank you to Philadelphia City Council President Darrell Clarke as well as Anne Nadol and Dawn Summerville from the city's Department of Commerce for helping us celebrate!
As our #PRIDE Month celebration continues, let us introduce you to LGBT-Owned brand Love Good Fats. Founder and CEO Suzie Yorke spent years cutting fat out of her diet only to find that she felt worse than before. After a bit of research, she learned that sugar and carbs might actually be the culprit. Suzie immediately shifted to a high-fat, low-carb diet and never felt better. The only problem was the lack of satisfying snacks, so Suzie got to work crafting her undeniably delicious, truffle-like bars with good fats, plenty of protein, and only 1-2 grams of sugar. With that, Love Good Fats began. Like us, Love Good Fats is committed to building a diverse and inclusive environment. The company was founded by a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and is a certified Women Business Enterprise. Even better, they've built a diverse staff, including more than 50% women, 15% LGBTQI, and 27% first and second-generation immigrants.
With #NationalPollinatorWeek officially underway, there's no better time to share that the bees are back! With the help of Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding, today we unveiled two new beehives and 30,000 honeybees. Over the next few months, we'll add to the colony, with our seven-acre pollinator-friendly solar field ultimately housing 450,000 honeybees and nine beehives. We knew we would bring honeybees back to our corporate headquarters, but not everyone is as fortunate as us. That's why we wanted to support other local beekeepers impacted by colony decline and theft. In partnership with Planet Bee Foundation, we also awarded grants to five central Pennsylvania beekeepers, totaling $10,000. The beekeepers will use the funds to replace bee colonies, rebuild beehives, and continue research.
To the dads on our team and all the dads out there, Happy Father's Day!

For this Meet a Team Member Monday, we're catching up with Erin Dugan, asset protection manager for Lancaster and York, Pennsylvania. A part of the team since 2019, Erin shared what #PrideMonth means to her and her family and how The GIANT Company supports the LGBTQ+ community in June and throughout the year. Erin says that for her, "Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate newfound freedoms and to demand change for the injustices that our community still faces. It is a time to tell our stories and connect with others over shared experiences. It is a time to educate our neighbors and connect with allies." Reflecting on the company's Pride theme for this year, "Be Proud to Be You," Erin said, "Being yourself is paramount in leading a full and meaningful life! One of my favorite songs is 'This is Me' from The Greatest Showman. It is one of my family's go-to sing-along songs. The lyrics encapsulate how I feel about overcoming hatred, embracing myself, and confidently moving forward daily. This is me."
During #ImmigrantHeritageMonth and throughout the year, we proudly celebrate the contributions immigrants have made to our country, communities, and The GIANT Company. Guided by our team promise, Be You, we encourage everyone - our team members, customers, suppliers, and community partners - to bring their unique experiences, heritage, and flavors to our shared table.
