Time to celebrate! Two of our leaders, Deb Kreider, Category Director Meat & Seafood, and Kim O’Hara, Store Manager at Store #6565 in Lebanon, PA, have been named Women of Influence by The Griffin Report, a leading food industry publication, for their leadership, commitment, and care. According to Griffin, “Each of these women plays a significant role in her company through her leadership, expertise and dedication, and beyond her company through her philanthropic and civic work. Each is passionate about supporting her family, friends, colleagues, and community.” We couldn't agree more! Congratulations to Kim and Deb for being named Women of Influence in our industry and our communities!
“Reviewing more than 500 applications from small businesses across the Commonwealth confirmed what we knew in our hearts: that the pandemic is having a devastating impact on our small business community,” said Nicholas Bertram, president, The GIANT Company. “We’re inspired by the strength and stories of these local businesses that, in many cases, have been serving our communities for generations. As a company focused on connecting families for a better future, doubling the funding to $500,000 was an easy decision because it meant we could provide more hope and help to these hard-working families and let them know that they are not alone.” Read more below and join us in congratulating all of the recipients!
Surprised at the supermarket! Earlier this week, our Scranton store team made a trip to the grocery store one to remember for 20 senior customers by picking up their tab at checkout and telling them "this one's on us!" Said Store Manager Tim Spence, "It was the most fun we've had in a long time...you could see the smiles through the masks!"
Congratulations to our Store Manager of the Year, Gary Cottingham! A champion of the business, his team, and the Chambersburg, PA community, Gary continually displays a passion for people and service while building a culture of care. “Passionate, purposeful, empathetic, strategic, and inspirational are just a few words that Gary embodies,” said GIANT Company District Director Steve Harfield. "Gary approaches every day with the expectation that he will achieve greatness. He is the consummate team player who continuously sacrifices his needs and best interests for those of others.” Throughout the year, Gary works with key local partners to put our purpose into action in our communities. During a recent “Bag Cleanup” event with the local high school, his team helped to collect over 20,000 used plastic bags from residents, diverting them from landfills, and providing the school with new benches in return. Thank you, Gary, for making a difference every day!
One of the most important parts of the Commonwealth’s agriculture economy, dairy farming supports 52,000 jobs and generates $14.7 billion a year. Already facing market challenging market conditions, the COVID-19 pandemic has compounded problems for dairy farmers, creating a serious threat to their livelihood. We’ve once again teamed up with Rynn Caputo of Caputo Brothers Creamery and John Trogner of Troegs Brewing Company and are excited to bring beer and cheese lovers alike our latest creation: Perpetual Beer Cheese. Our Chief Merchandising Officer JOHN RUANE said it best: “This partnership continues to have a positive impact on our local dairy industry, as all of the milk used to make the Perpetual Beer Cheese comes from Pennsylvania dairy farms. Local dairies, local beer, local good!”
