We joined LGBTQ community leaders, Jason Collins, the NBA’s first openly gay player, and Rep. Brian Sims, Pennsylvania’s first openly gay elected state legislator, to celebrate #Pride Night with the Philadelphia 76ers. Said GIANT’S Dani Trimmer, “We’re proud to partner with the 76ers on Pride Night as they bring the community together to celebrate diversity and honor the people and organizations dedicated to promoting inclusion and equality across the Philadelphia region.”
It's an important moment in our company’s history. At the #GIANT2020ABM, we unveiled our new name, The GIANT Company. Meet Rabiya Bower, RD, LDN one of our regional nutritionists serving the greater Philadelphia area! A registered dietitian pursuing a master’s degree in Health Science from Cedar Crest College, Rabiya has been part of the GIANT team since 2014. For Rabiya, educating people on healthy eating is more than a career; it’s personal. Diagnosed at age nine with Type 1 Diabetes, she knows the importance of eating nutritious food and the impact it can have on a person’s overall health. “I knew I wanted a career that focused on helping people, so I chose dietetics. As a GIANT regional nutritionist, whether I’m in a store, out in the community or working with the media, I get to share the message of nutritious food.” Rabiya's youngest clients are among her favorite, so much so she started a cooking program for kids. “I love working with kids and encouraging them to try new, healthy food. We've grown our kids cooking program to Mini Chef Creations and I love bringing it to new communities. Kids–and adults–love it, too.”
Congratulations to our partner, BrightFarms, a leading supplier of locally grown salads for supermarkets, on the opening its largest greenhouse earlier this week. The new 280,000 sq. ft. farm in Selinsgrove, Pa. will deliver over 2 million pounds of fresh, local produce year-round in Pennsylvania and the tri-state area, including many GIANT stores. Making the celebration even sweeter, BrightFarms is donating its first harvest to another one of our partners, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in Harrisburg. Said our Senior Vice President of Merchandising JOHN RUANE, “At GIANT, we pride ourselves on delivering the very best and freshest produce to our customers, and we couldn’t do that without partners like BrightFarms. They share our passion for local produce, people and community and we’re excited to celebrate this milestone alongside them and proud to offer their greens to our customers every day.”
2020 is off to such a fast start, we almost forgot to look back on 2019….and what a year it was! With the opening of 17 new stores to the launch of two family-focused partnerships with the Philadelphia 76ers and The Berenstain Bears and the introduction of our GIANT Heirloom Market and GIANT DIRECT brands, it was an unforgettable year. And as we celebrate last year’s achievements, a huge shout out to our more than 33,000 team members, who helped make 2019 so amazing!
For the second year in a row, GIANT has been recognized among the best places to work for LGBTQ equality, receiving perfect marks on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2020 Corporate Equality Index. “GIANT is honored to once again be recognized for our commitment in fostering a better place to work,” said Matthew Lutcavage, vice president of human resources, GIANT Food Stores. “Our team members and our customers are at the foundation of all that we do, and we strive to create an environment where both are not only valued but are treated fairly and with respect each and every day.”

The 104th Pennsylvania Farm Show is underway, giving families near and far the chance to learn about and celebrate the Commonwealth’s rich and robust agriculture industry.
