Going down hill

Pros

Potential to make a decent amount of money if you have no soul or family

Cons

This place is all numbers driven, regardless of what department you work in. Numbers are number one above all else, customers included. You need to meet goals for bonuses that focus on calls booked, calls lost, sales leads booked, revenue earned in field, least discounts given to new installs etc. A stressful place to work with constant management turnover.

Pros

Coworkers are good to work with and the team of managers is better than other places I have worked. They have a really solid approach to pay so we have ability to earn good money. The benefits are not bad either.

Cons

Retirement match is not the best. Company car is hard to get because of back orders and delays. Some favortism but that is normal anywhere to a point.

Pros

Can make good money, decent training program.

Cons

Most trucks are trashed and not well taken care of and smell of feces and urine. Management doesn’t communicate well with each other which wreaks havoc with any company and their employees. It’s a sales job- you’re trying to up sale your “ drain cleaning service “ which are subject to outrageous prices because of “urgency” calls. The company has high standards for grooming but put you in a 10 year old truck that has paint chipping and rust everywhere. Filling out paper work twice for each job which is redundant but guess why you do it? To make sure the company is covered with the customer signing At least 3+ times every service. If none of that bothers you- get in there they would love to train you to be a drain cleaning / plumbing salesperson.

Pros

It was a good place to work--competitive pay, great benefits, good leadership, and then they were acquired by ARS. However, the rampant nepotism stopped after the sale to ARS. Used to be that the only way to be promoted was to be a part of the Hamilton Family.

Cons

Benefits started slipping away after ARS took over, healthcare premiums went up (unless you were grandfathered in) despite the fact that new management told me that a great benefit of joining a large, international corporation was to have more money for employee benefits. So that was interesting. Also, got yelled at by angry customers several times daily because we constantly overbooked the schedule and rescheduled 20% of jobs. Also prices are super high, so we got yelled at about that too. And then Karens discovered our 100% satisfaction guarantee and figured out that if they complain enough they will get their money back, so pile that on. Required to work 9 hour days to accommodate a mandatory, unpaid 1 hour lunch break.

Pros

There are none. Would have made more money in a UPS warehouse.

Cons

This is a sales job, so naturally they feed the easy sales to the guys who have been there for years and thus have a solid closing ratio. You will be given the dregs and leftovers 2hours away from your home. You will work 12 hours a day running appointments to broke hoarders who can't pass credit. It is what it is. This company is all about the money and will not distribute high quality leads to you if you don't sell, which is impossible when they only give you the trailers and mini-split leads. They will send you to appointments at 7pm that are hours away from your home that have a low probability of closing. Management does not care about you at all. Believe me when I say that your ability to earn an income is not important. They only care about sales - if you don't get good leads in the first week of the month, you won't sell, and you can expect the dregs for the rest of the month. During your interview they will always show that top seller to get you excited about the potential, but there is NO POTENTIAL. You will be an expendable commodity for a company that is all about the money. Furthermore, their prices are so astronomical compared to the competition that you will have to drop your sales price so low just to get a sale that you will barely make decent commissions even if you do sell. This company does not care about its salesmen at all - you are just a means to an end. I have never witnessed an organization that functioned in such a selfish, myopic way. Literally ZERO care for your success or work-life balance.

Pros

Staff is easy to communicate with everyone works well together. There is opportunity to really make some additional incentive and bonus money if you are willing to put in the work. Upper management is open to ideas and are welcoming.

Cons

The industry as a whole can be too weather dependent.

Pros

ARS as a company attempts to give back. You can make good money but the company owns you.

Cons

Leadership strongly “encourages” its managers and employees to write positive reviews in order to lift the ratings from all of the negative reviews. It didn’t feel natural and our VP pushed it. Moral is terrible. Upper management is willing to drive employees into the ground in order to get results. A demotivating environment.
