Pros

A nice truck.... That you pay for

Cons

You get paid absolutely last. Started with a team of about 10....In 5 months that team was down to 3. Mandatory 6 days a week and 1/3 of the commission if you. The fire you and steal your commissions While companies like valor will actually pay you after you leave.

We appreciate feedback from all former employees, but we must firmly clarify that Advocate Construction does not withhold or "steal" commissions. All compensation is handled through a transparent commission agreement provided to and agreed upon by every new hire, which provides a clear and transparent accounting of all earned commissions. We have consistently paid all earned commissions throughout and after our shift to our current compensation model. If a commission was not paid, it is because the specific production requirements or milestones outlined in the agreement were not reached, meaning the commission was not earned. Advocate has shifted to a merit-based environment that prioritizes performance-driven opportunity. We recognize that our high-performance culture and focus on accountability are not the right fit for everyone, and some individuals choose to move on as we focus on building a team of dedicated professionals. We have evolved our compensation structure to include a base salary combined with a robust system of monthly, quarterly, and annual performance bonuses. This shift was made specifically to provide our team members with more financial stability and a clear path to success based on their individual contributions. We prioritize rewarding those who demonstrate initiative and deliver results for our customers. Success in sales requires being available when the customers are. This is not unique to Advocate; it is the case for virtually all sales roles. If you aren’t available when your customer needs you, they are likely to go with someone who is. Many of our highest-performing reps are available to meet with customers when they are at home, which includes evenings and weekends. If you aren't willing to be available when the customer is, you likely won't see the industry-leading earning potential that our top professionals enjoy. Regarding our truck program, we follow IRS rules related to the management of this fringe benefit. Our team members in the field are outfitted with a company truck for both professional and personal use, saving wear and tear on their own vehicles and, in many cases, eliminating the need to maintain a personal vehicle altogether. We are constantly turning over our fleet; many of our vehicles are 2025 or newer, with the oldest being a 2022. As a multi-year recipient of Top Workplace awards from USA Today and the Chicago Tribune, we take our reputation as an employer of choice seriously. We remain committed to maintaining a supportive and transparent environment for those looking to build a long-term career. We wish you the best in your next role.

Scamming Fake, Failing

Pros

Not being associated with this horrible place

Cons

Terrible, failing regional roofing company whose scheme is to have people drive around in trucks with ladders, knock on doors and speak a scripted sales pitch telling them they're going to do an "inspection" on their roof. They then return and have them lie to homeowner saying they see hail damage and try to coercive them into filing a bogus claim into their insurance company. Advocate forces reps to go door knocking until 7:30 at night in winter when it is illegal to do so: Troy, Rochester Hills MI. They have a rigged commission scheme mentioned in other reviews that never pays a dime. Shameful and illegal practices.

To anyone reading this review, please understand that this review makes no sense. First, integrity is one of our core values, and we never train or promote lying to customers; that assertion is simply false. Our culture is built on trust, quality, and shared success. We train our team to identify legitimate damage and assist homeowners through the insurance process honestly. If your training or manager ever suggests otherwise, it should be reported directly to our People Ops team for correction. Besides being unethical, it would be a poor business practice to encourage fake claims. Ultimately, if a home is not approved by the insurance company, the project does not move forward, which means Advocate does not receive a penny on the project. It makes no sense for us to waste our field team's time, our back-office resources, and money filing paperwork on projects that will never come to fruition. It would be completely counterproductive. We focus on legitimate work because it is the only sustainable path. Regarding compensation, we are known for paying the highest compensation to sales reps in the industry. To suggest we are "rigging" a system when we pay the most to our teams is contradictory. We offer a base salary combined with a robust system of monthly, quarterly, and annual performance bonuses designed to reward results and individual contribution. We have been involved in multiple industry-wide surveys and comparisons, and we consistently rank in the top percentage of compensation for our sales force. We also respect and adhere to local laws regarding soliciting. We prioritize balance and sustainable performance, and we expect our managers and teams to operate within legal and ethical boundaries at all times. We do not force employees to violate local ordinances. As a multi-year Top Workplace award recipient by USA Today among others, we are committed to an environment of accountability and growth. We wish you the best in finding a role that better aligns with your preferences.

Pros

I guess you get a decent truck that you have to pay for out of your own pocket.

Cons

Utterly dysfunctional management and a predatory business model. The compensation plan is a complete joke—newly implemented, intentionally confusing, and engineered to funnel money to upper leadership before you ever see a dime. You’re expected to grind for $600 a week while executives protect their cut. You’ll be sent out knocking on doors until 7:30 at night in rain, snow, and single-digit temperatures with zero regard for safety or basic human decency. I had a reputable contract ask me what I'm doing at 6:30 at night and how can I do an inspection in the dark with just one flashlight. Your schedule is constantly sabotaged by mandatory office days and last-minute meetings dropped the night before, ensuring you can’t start early or finish at a reasonable hour. This is by design—keeping you out until 7:00 p.m. But leave at 5:30 when it’s dark? Management will chew you out like you committed a crime. The actual job is nonstop door-to-door harassment. You’re pushed to pressure homeowners into signing contracts they don’t fully understand and to manufacture “damage” on roofs that are only a few years old. There are no appointments, no leads, no structure—just knocking on a hundred doors a day and hoping someone folds under pressure. The company is clearly cash-starved, which explains why they don’t pay commission per job and instead rely on exploiting new hires. All the glowing reviews are blatant propaganda—coached talking points fed to employees to drown out the truth. What you really learn here is how to lie, manipulate, and burn bridges for management’s benefit. Most people quit within weeks once they realize what’s

While we take all feedback seriously, it is clear from this review that our high-performance culture was not the right fit for this individual. We have been recognized by the Chicago Tribune and USA Today as a Top Workplace because we prioritize excellence, and our compensation system is intentionally designed to reward our top earners handsomely while moving away from retaining low performance. Regarding the comments on our sales process, the idea of "pressuring" homeowners into contracts is completely illogical. Our contracts include a cancellation period, meaning that any forced signature would simply result in a cancelled project after we have already invested time and resources. It is a poor business move and a waste of everyone's time, which is why we focus on ethical, value-based sales. Our training in no way whatsoever encourages that behavior as it is counterproductive. To any prospective employees reading this: Success in sales requires being available when the customers are. Our compensation plan is designed for professionals who want to understand the business. It requires sales reps to grasp basic components like how to determine a fair selling price, how to ensure a project is profitable, and how to track key performance indicators. Merging these fundamental business concepts together into a comp plan can be a bit more complex than some people are used to. It also allows those who master the system to maximize their earnings and unlock success. We are proud of our nationally recognized benefits, including our Company Truck Program, and we will continue to focus our energy on motivated individuals who want to build a long-term career in an award-winning culture that rewards results and transparency.
