Pros
Super-cool HQ space in SOMA SF Biased here, but the meals are tasty, healthy with all allergens and restrictions catered for. Great breakfast and lots of lunch choices, plus a full-scale coffee shop with baristas. Some really kind folks to work alongside Mission driven (also can be a Con) Makes full use of Asana, the tool for almost everything done at work Takes great and careful care of its software engineers
Cons
Bullying/belittling (shouting insults) was very apparent in our department for several years, it was known to senior management for some time and ignored - we don't know why, but we assumed because the perpetrator was a Senior Manager and an OG. Employees do not have job titles - feeling achievement and status is a challenge. References can be a problem when a potential future employer does a background check. Makes it feel weird when future career planning and LinkedIn updating. Cult-like (lots of Burning Man stuff) - you'll sample a strong flavor of "we care, very deeply" in All Hands meetings etc., but if you come close to senior management in meetings, you'll get to see that messaging is disingenuous. The reality is it's a top-down "do as we say" Draconian style. The mission is interesting. Done right, it could work very well. In my opinion, it feels childish with weird cartoon characters woven into everything. If a remote or hybrid work style is important to you, then take care to understand the "work from office" policy. You will have to work in an office Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri. Wednesday is the only day you can work at home.
