Pros

Can't think of anything to say

Cons

feel like working in the 70's. old systems, old school 'bosses', limited documentation, no accountability/no autonomy... feels sometimes like 'the emperor's new clothes'. employees see what the source of the problems are but 'don't talk about it' for fear of being fired. very autocratic management style. low pay, decent benefits depending on where in the world you work.

Pros

Worked with some great people over the years.

Cons

Most of those great people left after just a few years. Inflexibility in remote working; they almost begrudingly implemented a hybrid policy because we were losing great people to companies that were more flexible in this regard (not to mention paid more.) Kept being told that "we do our best work in person" even though one of the offices had a grand total of 3 employees. Corporate leadership puts profits before people; there is no "work-life balance." It's all work, all the time. Company doesn't appreciate its employees; employees put their hearts and souls into their work, and burn themselves out, without getting anything in return. Company has a habit of over-promising and under-delivering, whether to its customers or its employees. Company always wanted to cut corners and do everything in the cheapest way possible, even if it meant compromising on quality.

Pros

- Good work/life balance. I never felt pressured into working more than 40 hours. - Opportunity to work on useful, meaningful applications that improve operations for transit agencies. (I worked in the transit group in Kirkland/Redmond, WA.) - Depending on team, you can be working on new, interesting technologies and with people who care about doing the right thing and are collaborative and knowledgeable. - Small company and teams, so you can end up working on a variety of tasks.

Cons

- Was moved from team to team over a short period of time because of business needs. Sometimes I ended up having to work with pretty dysfunctional teams and incompetent team members. - Not much growth in this industry, and the future looks bleak given most of the software is legacy tech that the company is having a difficult time selling. Over the years, there have been a series of unfortunate business decisions surrounding moving off of it. They will be paying this debt off for a while. - Flat-ish, small organization, so very little opportunity for job/career growth. Many folks have been there for a while and are doing the same exact thing they did years ago.
