Pros

I love working with my students- they are so motivated, passionate, and have so much potential! Helping them achieve their dreams is my favorite part of being a college counselor!

Cons

I have been waiting for more students for a while

Pros

Empowerly is awesome. As a counselor here, I have access to tons of information and data on programs, acceptance criteria, and opportunities for students. The other services here are astounding - other places I've worked out there ONLY do counseling, and when I have to recommend my student to find an internship or write a research paper, they need to go find those opportunities externally, and they may not even be successful or good experiences. Empowerly has internships, research, AI, and they are world class programs that can't be found anywhere else. For instance, one of my 10th graders published their research paper in a top biomed journal through the Empowerly Research program, and you really can't get that anywhere else.

Cons

None that I can think of, maybe build a mobile app!

High expectations but rewarding work and high caliber teammates

Pros

This is not my first job at a startup, but I've grown a lot in the time I've been here and have a great team that I work with. Although it's not always easy and at times the work is a lot to handle with high expectations, it is rewarding and you learn a ton. We have high expectations and always maintain the best quality programs for all our families. There is also a lot of cross functional flexibility and you can dip your toes into other departments to see what sales, marketing, product, ops, etc. are like to work in and there's growth opportunities across departments. Empowerly has allowed many of my colleagues to explore and even move departments over time, from ops to product, counseling to sales, etc.

Cons

I understand that leadership has to make some hard decisions, like a lot of companies in this macro environment. Hard decisions cause some short term chaos, but Empowerly is in a much stronger place because of those choices. Some of the colleagues who are no longer with us today were really not a fit for our culture.
