Pros

great company for starting a career, if you are willing to put in the work. Benefits are in line with everyone else in hospitality and personally I like working for a corporation vs a franchisee.

Cons

Staffing quotas per hotel are low and when you have call offs and no shows managers end up doing a lot of extra shifts. The only one who benefits from this is Extended Stay as overtime is a No Fly Zone; so GMs and DMs are left to work extra shifts effectively leading them to lose time at home and money (same salary for more hours). Once you achieve the DM level; there is little to no room for advancement, as then politics seem to take hold and the SDRO postings are nonexistent and awarded to EVP favorites.

Pros

Excellent new GM certification program. What other company trains new GMs for 10 weeks?Lots of room to grow and promotion from within. Since this is a large company, there are many ways to be promoted and many facets of this company to find your niche. Great local support by DMs and excellent benefits and bonus structure. ESA 2.0 will also be an amazing transformation of the brand..so many good things to come. This position is not for the "sit at the desk" GM. You will have your hand in every single department and by doing so you acquire a full working knowledge of not only your hotel operations but also Sales, HR, IT, legal..etc. Very accessible Execs, which means the world to property level associates, particularly management. I would definitely recommend.

Cons

Sometimes understaffed, but that is managed at the property level so turnover mostly depends on your managerial skills.

Pros

ESA promotes within. Great company to grow and get experience. Free Hotel Room Nights. Learning all departments; housekeeping, maintenance and laundry. Flexibility of schedule. Transfer Opportunities I really like my RDO and DM. They let me run the hotel without micromanaging every small detail. Bonus Payouts.

Cons

Upper management is unrealistic. They set targets that are ridiculous. When you meet targets, you are not appreciated. If you fall below targets, they are quick to recognize that. I wish corporate would give guest's better amenities, so the guest are satisfied. If a guest is unhappy with breakfast, it's not fair that the manager's are blamed for that. Turnover is very bad. I find myself working lots of long hours/double shifts. It is hard to find reliable associates at a quarter above minimum wage.
