Pros

Most of the people are wonderful I learned extreme self-discipline and how to efficiently multi-task under pressure

Cons

Please take this and the other negative reviews into consideration. The negative reviews are the true ones. The positive reviews are there because we were told to write them when a negative review was received. First and foremost, know that this is a call center and as such you will be micromanaged every second of every workday. I think they're getting better in the hiring process but for me and many others, we were told we'd be on inbound calls about 2 hours a day which is a bald-faced lie. You spend 6-7 hours of your workday taking inbound calls with only 25 seconds between each. If you take more than 25 seconds between calls you are almost always approached by a team lead asking why you’re taking longer. I understand that this is how call centers must be run but I want potential employees to know exactly what they’re in for before committing years of their lives to a job that will make them miserable. If you choose to work as a service agent you will be the company pack mule. They’ll pile on the workload of about 3 people and then run you into the ground, all the while asking why you aren’t more efficient or why you haven’t volunteered for projects or why you don’t come to Saturday workdays. Yes, they want you to come in and work most Saturdays because as a department they are days, if not weeks, behind. It’s voluntary (so you don’t get paid for it) but if you don’t work at least a few Saturdays a month you won’t be considered for a promotion. One of the main reasons you’ll be a pack mule is because Goosehead pumps out sales agents so quickly that they’re improperly trained and write incorrect or bad policies every single day. When the client figures this out it’s your job to clean up the disaster that was created. If the client hasn’t figured it out yet, it’s your job to contact them letting them know the agent wrote their policy wrong (but never actually telling them that). Those are some enjoyable interactions… I believe the company has grown too fast for its own good. The management that has been promoted is too young, too inexperienced, and too immature. Service agents lack respect for a disproportionately large amount of the team leads and team managers. This is completely warranted as many of them are selfish, rude, and think they’re “cool” because they got promoted so quickly. This is NOT a meritocracy. I knew a shocking amount of service agents who worked at Goosehead for multiple years, had outstanding KPIs and good relationships with sales agents, yet they were never put forward for promotion. These were also the brightest service agents at the company. It seems Goosehead only wants sheep leading their flock. Or the ones who gave in and finely drank the Cool Aid. I could go on and on about my mental health decline (due to working here), my integrity being sacrificed, being punished for things I never did, people nearly being fired because they lost a dear friend or family member and missed work, and so much more. But I’ll end with this last tidbit to really drive the point: If a team lead, team manager, or service director doesn’t like you you can kiss your chances of promotion goodbye, no matter how stellar your work ethic. These people are all best friends: living together, partying together, sleeping together, traveling together. And some of them are even related to each other. The conflict of interest is layers deep. Say you and a team manager both have strong personalities. If those personalities clash and the team manager lacks emotional intelligence, each time you come up for promotion that one person will determine your future at the company. I saw this happen to people over and over. I saw people upset, crying, and confused when they weren't selected for the leadership program or a team lead position. People who would have made outstanding leaders and slowed down turnover (which was at or just over 50 percent at my last town hall meeting). Something is very wrong within the service department at Goosehead Insurance. I know the managers are aware as they're scrambling to right the ship, but I don't known if they are good enough to. I don't see the future of the company being a very healthy one if this trend continues. Knowing this, if you're a creative person who works best on your own stay very, very far away from Goosehead. If you suffer from depression and/or anxiety you should also stay away. This work environment will only make it worse. I hope this helps steer people away from Goosehead and toward a job they truly will thrive in.

Pros

There are no pros in my opinion.

Cons

BEFORE YOU ACCEPT AN OFFER/APPLY – PLEASE READ. Oh, where do I start with this company. Let’s get the first thing clear, the amount of money you make for the work you do is an absolute joke. Do not believe them when they say that they have a “competitive base pay”. You make 40k/year working 55+ hours a week with no overtime pay. They’ll have Saturday work days for a chance to earn extra PTO, sounds cool right? Here’s the gag, YOU HAVE TO BEG TO GET YOUR DAYS APPROVED OFF. Pretty much all the weekends of the year are already “blacked out” by senior reps/favorites - with absolutely no sympathy to you and your personal needs. Begging for YOUR OWN PTO is a joke. Not to mention that they completely look down upon you if you ever call in sick, need to leave for emergencies, etc. They are in some weird denial that they don’t think their service department is understaffed – so instead they load employees with excessive amounts of work with such little time to do them. As you can imagine, this creates a high stress environment with HIGH exposure to E&O (errors and omissions). They expect you to take calls non-stop with a hysterical 20 second after call wrap up time, and if you don’t, you’ll be pestered by the manager monitoring the phone board. They will come up to you saying “Are you good? Take another call?” Micro-managed/favoritism is the culture of their service department. It’s funny how they micromanage the entire team, yet they are a week+ late behind on their own cases. You are not allowed to go on breaks in groups, and even your breaks are monitored. Let’s talk about professional growth, important to a company, right? Your monthly 1-1 with your manager or your team lead is on YOUR clock, meaning that it’s during your lunch or you have to stay 30min to an hour late before or after your shift for that meeting. (again, no overtime is paid) They do not designate time, or programs, for their employee development. Goosehead promises you so many advancements in your career, yet no matter how hard you work they absolutely do not care. They promote the favorites, people who you question to even be a leader, vs the people who work so hard day in and day out. They post all over social media that their culture is “unmatched” but if they took the time to talk to their service department, they would realize that’s not the case. People on every team in service complain about how miserable it is, how the workload is insane, the pressure, the micromanaging, the management – is all a cancerous environment. Not to mention that you are constantly being yelled at by the sales agents when they call into the service line, to correct the mistakes THEY MADE to the policies. It’s a domino effect, sales agent writes a bad policy, client calls sales agent mad, sales agent then calls the service department screaming that you need to call the client and break the bad news to them…… and that’s right, you guessed it. Service agents call the clients to correct those mistakes. They also bring in prospective agents who are looking to buy a GH franchise, once a week to shadow the service department – it’s a completed staged PRODUCTION. Suddenly, the managers are on their best behavior, the culture seems automatically fixed. They tell everyone to be well dressed and to work in the most professional matter. Often, I would think to myself, are all companies like this? But then I realized that what the GH service department has is just sickening. If you are someone who cares about your mental health, the environment you work in on a day to day basis, APPRECIATION for the work you do, personal/professional growth – then do you self a favor and stay away. I read bad reviews before I accepted the job and disregarded them, but now I wish I didn’t. The positive reviews are posted by the management team, so if you’re looking for REAL reviews, take a look at the bad ones. I finally left the company and it was the best decision I ever made in my life. I now work for a company who actually values you and has a great morale. I find it interesting that when I tell people I used to work at Goosehead, they immediately say “They tried to recruit me, but I didn’t want to because I heard how bad it is there.” If you do decide to accept an offer here, just know that you are going to be in a college graduate day-care managed by people who don’t even know what they’re doing. I can’t speak for the other departments, all I know is it’s the worst service department in the world.

Pros

If you are looking for a company that will wholeheartedly invest in you, believe in you, and give you ALL of the tools you need for success, then Goosehead Insurance is where you need to be. Working for Goosehead has instilled a tremendous amount of growth in me and challenged me to be a better version of myself every day. Tons of leadership opportunities, rewards/promotions based on hard work rather than tenure, mentors that truly care about your growth and success within the company, NO PAY CAP, I repeat, NO PAY CAP as an Account Executive, weekly incentives, cash bonuses, a fun yet professional office environment... I could go on and on. I am 100% in love with this company and opportunity that comes with it.

Cons

Not going to lie. This job is a LOT of hard work. Long hours and blood/sweat/tears for the first few years as you get your feet wet. However, it doesn't take long to start seeing your diligence pay off (literally... $$$), and Goosehead's business model definitely rewards those who are willing to put in the effort.
