Pros

If you have no job experience or education this is probably a good fit for you. This is nothing more than a call center job, and your managers will absolutely try to make you think otherwise by changing your title, having meetings on how important and meaningful your contribution is etc. In that way it's great if you came from a previous call center environment and would like to continue doing so. Otherwise...

Cons

If you have any real experience or education it baffles me to think that people stay in this environment when they options. Even with no qualifications people find themselves in better positions than working at a burn-and-churn call center. This makes much more sense however once you see for yourself how adept management is at selling the job to you, despite the fact that most people want to escape from it but have lost the motivation to do so. This job will grind you down and remove all willpower you had to escape and better yourself. Don't take my word for it, just pay attention to the people who work there when they give you the floor-tour. Defection rate is embarrassingly high which management attempts to mitigate by writing false reviews of the company in every social media outlet they can. Workdays are a long, tedious, and mind-numbing experience where its very common to stay late, sometimes very late to pick up the slack of the workday. Although you may think the pay offer is good, watch your actual per hour income plummet as you easily spend 50 hours a week or more doing the same thing over and over. Since it's a very small company promotions are rare. However, Goosehead management will continually tell you they are rapidly growing and promotions are right around the corner in an attempt to get you to stay. In the rare case that there is a promotion it's really just about whoever is friends with the managers. Even then, after a promotion you will be doing exactly same thing as you were before you were promoted except now you handle complaints (oh what a joy). The pay raise after a promotion is negligible as well. If you are smart, hard working, and easy to work with please do yourself a favor and pass on Goosehead. Your career will thank you for it.

Pros

The money is great if you work hard. I'm not sure what the college kids think a job is coming fresh out of college, but this is not 100K guarantee. You have to WORK HARD. Your mom and dad may have given you everything before, but this is all on you. The salary projections are ACCURATE for those that work hard. All of the reviews I see saying that they were lied to about what they would make just sound lazy to me. Did you think you would be able to snap your fingers and make a decent salary? GROW UP. This company has plenty of opportunities and WE DO make the money they tell you about. I have received one email in my 4 years at this company asking me to leave a review. ONE IN FOUR YEARS. I'm not sure what emails people are referring to about management asking us to leave good ones. Also another huge pro to this job is that if you do it correctly, you are allowed to work from home. What job just says sure work from home as long as you still meet expectations? So I can work from home and still make $150K a year. Yes this is very true. We also have a Women's Professional Development Council that Robyn Jones RUNS. So saying she doesn't have any say in the company is ridiculous. She is an amazing woman and always looks out for all of us. I don't know of any other companies that have a whole development program for women? Talk about AMAZING! No one asked me to write this, I am just tired of reading the same lies every time someone quits. Also, ADHD is a real mental illness and people should no be shamed for having to take medication. Frankly, it's no one's business. Also, discriminating against employees because they are Aggies is just stupid. These comments prove people are just REACHING for things to complain about because they were too lazy to work here. WHOOP!

Cons

It is hard work in the beginning. A lot of needy people, but it's sales. Try not to start a family until after your business is established. You focus needs to be on building your brand for a god two years.

Thanks for your feedback! It's awesome to hear about your success. We agree - Robyn Jones is pretty great. Goosehead's staff is now over 50% female with many working their way up into leadership quickly. The women's professional development program is a huge reason why. Keep up the great work.

Pros

The culture of the company is second to none. I've made some of the best friends of my entire life here and downtime at work is fun because you like the people you are around. There's lots of company events put on to promote the culture (family picnics, holiday party, powderpuff football games, etc). Everyone goes out together on the weekends, so it's really like you are part of a family. The home product is very competitive (price and coverage) so you don't lose often when going up against other companies.

Cons

Serious lack of transparency from management to employees. Commission structures changed in the middle of the month with the change backdated to the beginning of the month and they'll say that it's all in your best interest, which you will "make more money", but you'll be doing twice the work and making the company twice the money which is ultimately their motive behind the change - not your success. They are hiring on new sales agents at a lower commission rate than current agents and chalking it up to "not a that big of a difference", but if it's not that big of a difference why not just leave it the way that it is? When you question this they tell you that you don't understand corporate business. Sorry, I guess I just understand what makes people happy and then what turns people off and makes them not feel valued. The lower commission rate didn't affect me, but it's hard to explain to new people the way they'll be paid when your commission rates are different and there's no reason as to why, just that they started later than you. They preach that you can always come to them with anything and they are open ears, but when you voice your opinion they tell you you're just thinking about it all wrong and shoot you down. They Dallas referral partner market is completely saturated because they've sold so many franchises and they're trying to take all of your referral partners. If you've done a good job of building those relationships your people won't trust them and will call you and ask, but sometimes they just assume and you're left high and dry. Houston is becoming very saturated, and Austin is the only place where there is still a lot of opportunity, the premiums are just half of what they are in Dallas and then even less than half of Houston. They praise people for coming in early but don't even blink at the people who stay there on the phone until 10pm helping clients because that's what works best with their schedule. Work days are 8am-6pm for sales but you're expected to be there earlier and stay later. You feel guilty if you leave on time even when ahead of goal because "there's always more that you can do". You could have your best month ever and they'll discount it by saying you didn't hit the next highest number. Bonus structure is insulting. i.e. there isn't one and this is a sales job. It changes every month and they try and make it "fun". I don't care about fun, I care about getting paid. Almost everyone hired is fresh out of college so they can mold them into the "salespeople" they want them to be. Practically no women on the salesfloor and the immature boys turn the office into a "corporate" frat house. This is not a true corporate job. They're opening a new corporate office in Chicago in 2017 and also a Houston Woodlands office in 2017 or 2018 as well. In the next year they are trying to onboard 100 new sales agents...if you are reading this...please, please take my advice and look at the opportunity you will have at other companies in a sales position. Do not let them hook you on the "opportunity" and the career trajectory that you will be making $200k+ by your 3rd or 4th year. This is not realistic and they model they are basing that off of is not one that has every been accomplished. They sell you on the "oh but you could..." and they are very good at that. Do not get tunnel vision when applying/interviewing for jobs just because graduation is near or you don't have a job yet. If you want a true sales job, this is not the one for you. The Top 100 Places to work thing is also a total rip-off...they were begging us to complete those surveys for over a month so that we'd get put on that list and then all of the employees share it like it's some massive feat...haha. And they try and have as many people as possible apply for the leadership program which is just a period of time where you have to read books and sit in meetings and act as a manager without paying you and they just call it servant leadership. People think if they follow this path that they'll be director in the company, but you can't have a million directors and the new people they're hiring are being sold on this but don't realize how many people are already in line for this. Trust me. I will be leaving soon because I've taken the blinders off and see the opportunities I have been missing by just working here the past 2 years. You'd also think an insurance company would offer better benefits...companies I have offers with right now have things like $1 health insurance (better coverage than we have now with lower deductibles), car allowance, cell allowance...all these perks and with Goosehead health insurance for a single adult is over $200/month. My friend with a family pays over $700. Ignorance is bliss....if you don't know what else is out there, you think you have the best job ever, but once you actually look around you realize there is a lot more to the world than just Goosehead.

Thank you for the feedback, and we are glad you enjoyed the company culture. Our culture is marked by top talent who are high-achieving, social, and have tremendous amounts of grit. We define grit as passion and perseverance for long-term goals. For those reading this, I do want to address a few of the specific points made here. In order to keep the top-talent we recruit, we believe people have to be treated fairly, and have never changed a commission structure mid-month. We have an extremely competitive bonus structure starting with $8,500 of bonuses your first year for meeting expectations. Working at Goosehead is a long-term play (3+ years), and anyone that works here would tell you that the first two years of pay are typically less than you can make at other opportunities. Insurance is all about building a book of renewals (which takes a few years) – however, we provide the tools to build your book faster at Goosehead than anywhere else in the industry. Most of our employees hit their revenue targets and are significantly out-earning their peers in other industries by the start of their third year. Because a significant amount of income is from renewals, agent’s compensation is not only stable, but it continues to increase every year. On Referral Partner saturation, we insure less than 10% of new purchases in both DFW and Houston—there is still significant opportunity in all our key markets. As in everything at Goosehead, the work hours are based on meritocracy. If agents hit goals, they earn flexibility, but if they don’t, then we expect extra investment. In recruiting we are very transparent that the first two years are difficult. We welcome feedback and are constantly striving to help our team become more successful. We understand that this opportunity is certainly not for everyone, and we wish you success in your future endeavors.
