Pros

- SEO team had great culture, very collaborative environment and teammates were always willing to take the time to help out - More often than not, promotions happen from within so there is opportunity to move up - Option to work from home/remotely - Flex scheduling, as long as you start by 8am - Work is pretty simple and does not require a ton of prior knowledge, so it's a good starting point for someone who wants to explore a career in digital marketing

Cons

- Overall company culture was not the best -- I understand COVID made this more difficult, but as an employee it came off more so as they stopped caring, as there were some efforts made at the beginning of the pandemic with Zoom happy hours etc. that stopped being planned - Very heavy workload, which led to a lot of stress and at times felt like it impacted the quality of work that was being delivered - Low pay and lack of appreciation by management/execs, which leads to a lack of employee retention and high turnover rate - Not a ton of opportunity or time for professional development -- new skills are taught when necessary, but priority was never placed on getting employees trained in essential SEO tools like Google Analytics

Thank you for taking time to leave your review! During your time at Straight North, we are happy to hear that the SEO team had a great culture, the environment was collaborative and that teammates were always willing to take the time to help out. It sounds like you also enjoyed the flexibility of work hours along with being able to work remote or from the office. We take great pride in hiring experts with 5-10+ years of experience along with creating opportunities for entry-level hires to start their career. As you started your career with us over the last 2 years, it sounds like you appreciated the ability to move up within the company, grow your skillset and increase your compensation. We train our SEO staff on a variety of tools including Google Keyword Planner, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs and Screaming Frog along with methodologies associated with keyword strategy, content optimization and technical SEO. We pay competitive salaries based on years of experience combined with skill level and have an annual performance/compensation review cycle. We promote staff throughout the year as advancement opportunities present themselves. While it is our goal to retain as many employees for as long as possible, we understand that staff at the beginning of their career may look for advancement opportunities outside of our company. We wish them the best of luck in their future career path. We agree that COVID has created a less than ideal culture for many businesses. While many staff members overwhelmingly enjoy working remotely, we know 100% remote work has its drawbacks. As COVID concerns continue to dissipate, we will continue to provide a flexible remote/office work policy and work to improve our culture. Thanks again for your feedback. It helps us work to continually improve our business.

Pros

-Good collaborative team members who are happy to help and solve problems together! -The work itself for the most part is templated and pretty easy but there are some opportunities for problem solving that allow you to think a little more critically. -Ability to move up. -WFH with the option to work from the office. -Very occasionally there are bonuses or incentives for when there are busy months.

Cons

-Company culture died with COVID. -Repetitive work, some of which feels like busywork. -Heavy client load. Feels nearly impossible to go into depth with any one client, and there's not really any chance to do deep-dives and tackle problems below surface level. -Low pay. General feeling of being undervalued by execs. -There's not a lot of training or professional development. If you want to learn more about the industry, you have to make time for it and explore on your own. -Company goes through pretty high turnover and management doesn't really seem to care for employee retention. That being said it is a decent place to work, get a few good years experience and move on.

Thanks for taking time to leave a four-star review! We are happy to hear that you enjoy working with your team members. We take great pride in hiring experts with 5-10+ years of experience along with creating opportunities for entry-level hires to start their career. As you have started your career with us over the last 1-2 years, it sounds like you have appreciated the ability to move up within the company, grow your skillset and increase your compensation. If you feel that you need additional training to better perform your job, please communicate that concern to your manager. We pay competitive salaries based on years of experience combined with skill level and have an annual performance/compensation review cycle. We promote staff throughout the year as advancement opportunities present themselves. It seems there is a misunderstanding of how promotions and pay increases work. Please communicate with your manager to clear up any concerns you may have. While it is our goal to retain as many employees for as long as possible, we understand that staff at the beginning of their career may look for advancement opportunities outside of our company. We wish them the best of luck in their future career path. We agree that COVID has created a less than ideal culture for many businesses.
