Pros

It's a small company so you do get to learn a lot and get your feet wet. Most of the people are also nice.

Cons

Lots of micromanagement in the form of goal setting and what they call "initiative lists" which are basically "to do lists" although the CEO and the President don't see it that way.

More Students, Increase Pay

Pros

Studypoint does a lot of things very well. They have designed programs for test prep that include both homework sets and practice tests. The website they have designed for their students and tutors is wonderful. My program manager is understanding and easy to work for. It is a very rewarding and enjoyable job. They remove the aggravation of advertising yourself by finding you students.

Cons

Pay is relatively low once you factor in prep time, travel, parent consults, administrative work, etc. Starting pay is at $20 per hour; however after factoring in all of the above it decreases to around $12 per hour. ( The competition pays more!) Second issue is a lack of students. Currently I meet with two students for a total of 4 hrs per week. I'm sure I could get more students by expanding my service area; however the pay is much too low to be traveling more than 30 minutes one way to increase my workload.

Pros

Solid organization and a fair amount of work available. Friendly managers and ok materials.

Cons

For this field, the pay stinks. in addition they do not pay for travel, which would be fine with a high hourly, but that is not the case. They also do periodic overhauls of the study materials, which frequently have more mistakes post-overhaul. The managers don't seem to have as much test prep experience as the tutors.

I appreciate your thoughts. We are one of the few tutoring organizations that has a full-time curriculum development team, and I am proud of the great work they did recently on our revamped program for the New SAT. As a new program, there are always some edits that need to be done after the first printing, and we are working to get those done quickly. Our pay rates are competitive with our peers. In each city we serve, our tutor recruiters identify the 4-5 companies similar to ours - meaning tutors are employees not contractors, full-time customer service is offered, and curricula are provided - and we pay the same or a little more. Now, tutors can certainly make more money working on their own, but then you have to get your own clients, deal with billing, and find over-the-counter curricula that often lack online resources. We hope you'll stay with us and enjoy the main goal we share of helping kids create opportunities for themselves!! Best, Greg President & Co-Founder
