Pros

Very comprehensive introduction to the expectations on you as a tutor, as well as a review and background of much of the material you will be expected to tutor. They make a better effort than other tutoring companies I've worked for to make sure you are "vetted".

Cons

It's really absurd that in such a high-priced marketplace (such as tutoring in the tri-state area) they feel it is reasonable to pay tutors at a rate that is roughly 25% to 15% of what they are charging the parents of the students being tutored.

Easy work but underpaid

Pros

All materials are provided and once you get into the swing of it, it requires very little outside prep. Program managers tend to be responsive. Schedules are completely set by the tutors, and students are screened for engagement so noncompliance is low.

Cons

The pay is less than half of what can be earned for the same subject outside the company. Management keeps a huge cut of the program fees so students are forced to massively overpay for the services.

Great Company

Pros

Ability to choose commission structure after initial salaried probationary period. Work from home, equipment provided. Work to help families get support for their child in K12 and some college (job consists of phone consulting for tutor staffing - B2C direct sales). Great company culture, very supportive in all aspects both personal and professional. Smaller company so you may occasionally work directly with CEO on professional development. Always warm leads calling you directly, no cold calling. Outbound calls are also warm leads, there are outbound call quotas, monthly call time quotas, and sales quotas. High quality and very experienced tutors - must have graduated from a top 50 university if they tutor online only.

Cons

Can be tedious. Hours are 9am until 6pm or later depending on how long a client call lasts, can make for late evenings occasionally. Occasional Saturday shifts during peak season (half day). Can be a bit isolating if you don't enjoy working alone in your home office all day. It's hardcore sales so you better be ready to close deals every day and do whatever it takes to convince parents that your tutors are the best in the industry....which they very well might be. No upward mobility as far as position/role, but there is an ability to make more as you gain more experience.
