Pros
USDM is a special place. I have worked in several large and small companies, and USDM is the first place where I feel 100% comfortable bringing my whole self to work. I appreciate that I can speak up without conformity, that I feel heard and valued, and that there are so many smart, passionate, vocal women on the leadership team. There are wonderful men too, but it’s rare to have so many women in leadership positions. The subject matter of the work is fascinating, challenging, and rewarding. We can actually make the world a better place, and I never tire of learning about science and technology. There is a lot of autonomy and opportunity to make an impact. I work remotely but also feel very connected to my team and peers, and communication is good. I am adequately compensated and empowered to do my best work. I genuinely like everyone I work with, and there is a great family-like culture.
Cons
Working in technology means you move as fast as technology. The pace of work is fast, very fast, but there is never a dull moment. If you need a lot of structure or an enterprise-like hierarchical org chart; you won’t find it here. There is a very entrepreneurial spirit, and you need to be able to work in an agile fashion with autonomy and some ambiguity.
