Pros

Full paid benefits for full time employees (but you have to pay in if you want to add spouse/family) The ability to work from home (some people might consider this a con, but I like having the option) Employees are open to helping out people who are new Good work environment Interesting work (if you like working with the federal government!)

Cons

The workload has major busy times, and then down times. This isn't necessarily an actual con, but if you don't have the initiative to ask people if they have work they need assistance with, you might find yourself bored. Overtime may be required, especially toward the end of projects/deadlines. Again, maybe not a con, but if you're strictly 8-5, Monday through Friday, you may not be happy with that. Know going in that you may be pulled into projects that take up more than your usual hours.

Thank you for your feedback. Encourage you to share your observations with immediate supervisor and the program manager ( I will do the same). Please reach out to others if you need help and are running against the clock, and also reach out to others when you have down time. Together we can - meet the program deadlines and deliver high quality products!

Pros

This is a great part time job. I work remotely from home and between my other job and being a full time student, VSolvit has been flexible and helped me get experience. Management and other employees are very helpful and approachable. You can get experience in your field and still be a student or working another job.

Cons

Working from home can be annoying at times. The remote positions also work on holidays. Sometimes I feel the weekly meetings are pointless. Minimum wage.

Thank you for your feedback. Please email the COO / management regarding your suggestions on making the weekly meetings more productive. Regarding the wages, note that this internship program is geared to help you get experience and showcase your skills. It is unlikely that we will increase the wages significantly, but it is very likely that if you perform well, and are interested in a full time role, you will be financially better off. Lower wages allow us to give more opportunities to a broader set of folks.

Thank you for your feedback. We actually do support transfers to other departments, based on the employee interest and the departmental needs. I encourage you to express your interest, and VERY IMPORTANTLY, provide a rationale on why the move is justified. e.g. If you are in the marketing team, but have a GIS background, you want to communicate why you should be in the IT/GIS team and how you will add value. I sincerely hope that you can continue to have a learning opportunity here as university students, and transition to a more responsible role upon graduation :)
