Middle Management and Director level are caring and competent. My particular colleagues and those around me seem competent, hardworking, and friendly. My position is relatively flexible and provides good challenges and interesting projects. Pay for my position is fair or even better than fair.
Cons
A story: It's late June, early July. Our company had been hybrid work from home, (Home M/F, Office T/W/R). The Chairman makes an unscheduled trip to a variety of offices in Columbus, Ohio to see who was in. Unfortunately, he made this trip on a Monday. By all accounts, he is upset that there are many seats unoccupied, (despite it being a work-from-home day). Four days later, on Thursday of the same week, we receive notice of a hastily put-together all-staff call with C-Suite executives in a boardroom. The message is, that we need to get together to collaborate. We should feel guilty that some of our colleagues in the manufacturing and services branch of the company didn't get to work from home at all. On and on it went: a tone-deaf, ill-conceived, and poorly delivered message that we would now be working from the office full time with only 2 weeks' notice. Got to find someone to watch your kids now? Don't care. Adopted a dog and now have to board it? Too bad! Now, staff is being monitored by key card scans to see if they are in the office. To be penalized, then fired, if they are not. I ask you, is a place that needs to threaten you to come to work, a good place to work? No, it is not. If this seems like a list of grievances, rather than an example of a poor place to work, here is a second interesting tale. A tale of numbers: In February, our stock went from 22 dollars to 12 dollars. Why such a dramatic change? We missed our earnings forecast. Why did we miss our earnings forecast? As the CEO himself put it, "we didn't anticipate the increased cost of steel, circuitry, and other materials used to manufacture the products we sell. Because we didn't anticipate the cost of steel, etc. going up, we didn't increase the prices on our products and in fact, sold them at a loss." As a result, a single exec and some sacrificial lambs in finance and sales got let go while the Chairman and CEO stay with the company. Avoid Vertiv (unless you like poorly run tech companies and old white guy mentality.)
