Pros

No commute, working from home.

Cons

I was recently terminated from Windy City and in my whole year of employment, a 401K was never offered or discussed. The same holds true for employees who have been with the company for over two years. Also, when I first started "The hiring team" made it clear that we were not telemarketers. Whenever we would call someone with PrivacyDirect which is a service that tells telemarketers to put them on the DO NOT CALL LIST we were urged not to because we were told we were not telemarketers. If that's the case that we are telemarketers then why were our points taken off when we did indeed put those numbers on the DO NOT CALL LIST? Human Resources that was a blatant lie on your part. Also, I along with many other representatives were fired for not meeting performance goals which is 2 leads per hour, DESPITE the fact I had 100% for quality for five months in a row, I even earned a bonus for it. To the end of my employment I managed the required 92% or above standard for quality. For all readers, I am not some angry former employee I am actually quite relieved I no longer hold this job. If you do decide to work for this company, I wish you luck in your endeavors. I will say a lot of the times calls will come in at a snail's pace as one reviewer mentioned, also many of the calls will be sent straight to voicemails, if not then you have people already enrolled in school, needing a diploma, not fluent in English, wrong number and of course simply not interested. The script and the rebuttals must be followed verbatim or you risk getting points deducted from your quality assurance reports, people can tell it is a script no matter how hard you try to sound like it isn't, people are not that stupid. Finally, in your favoring of for profit/private schools you talk about the exponential growth, but what about the statistics and stories of students who have graduated from those schools, not getting a job in their field of study to find that they did not receive the proper training while in school. I know Human Resources and management is aware of this, you are all just trying to keep your jobs and continue to turn that wheel. That wheel will eventually stop though, people are getting wise to not sign up for job websites that make profit by selling their information to lead generation companies and for profit schools will find other ways to snake people in to enrollment. It just isn't fair to all the unknowing representatives whom have a good outlook toward the company. What will happen when they are all suddenly laid off or fired with no preparation?

Pros

You get an hourly rate to work from home

Cons

This company has a "Leads Per Hour" quota of 2.0, yet sometimes calls come in at a snails pace, we are talking 7-10 minutes between calls. Then because you do not met your quota, they make you log off of work for the day, put you on disciplinary action, and eventually cut your hours to less than 10 hours per week. Or they just fire you. If you plan to advance in this company, think again! If you are "Promoted" you get a standard .50 cent raise and 150% more job duties, to which they expect done in less than 40 hours. A typical week in QA or management is generally around 50 hours and if you claim overtime they will make you feel guilty for having done so, or urge you to doctor your own time entries to reflect just 40 hours. Management is cut throat, and are a "Clique" if you are not in with the in crowd, get ready to be handed your hat. Whatever "Think Tank" they have, over analyzes bad reports with no basis for comparisons and changes to the company are made at a moments notice with no sense of morals or professionalism. Every year some big change occurs and it only makes the company lose more money. The pay as a new hire is BAD, and if you think you are saving money by not spending it on gasoline, just wait until you get your power bill! This is NOT a Customer Service Job, it is a TELEMARKETING job. Essentially the company gathers 3rd party information from job search engines, and proceeds to solicit low income people looking to find a job, offering for profit colleges that will put them even more into debt, and their degree is worth nothing because the school is not properly accredited. Most time off is unpaid, they offer paid time but if you take paid time that is not "Accrued" it will be deducted from your last pay check. You will not be given adequate time to read the vast amount of emails sent due to the constant restructuring of the company, and if you claim this time as paid, it is in most cases denied as paid time. This company, will most likely be out of business within two years, and that is giving them some credit. Do yourself a favor, find some where else to work. Dedicating your time to this company is a waste of your time investment if you are looking for a long term growing career.

Pros

Working from home: That's it and the chat room which you can meet some great like minded folks.

Cons

For them to say we are not telemarketers and how we're better than other companies is asinine! Believe what you hear from all the negative reviews!

Windy City Call Center Response

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your opinion on working at Windy City Call Center and I am sorry to hear that there are certain aspects regarding your employment here with which you are not satisfied. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify that the call center rep position is a telemarketing position. The Hiring Team takes great care to ensure that the position is not advertised as “customer service” and that a realistic job preview is provided to candidates early on, although due to some misinformation or misunderstanding, that standard was clearly not met with you. In light of this, we will ensure that all of our job descriptions and postings, along with our screening and interviewing process, are consistent in conveying that while we are not cold-calling individuals, the Call Center Representative role is still a form of telemarketing. Your comments will certainly help us, as we are constantly revising and improving our organizational processes, including recruitment and hiring. It is our goal to hire the most qualified and best suited individuals for the Rep position who will be happy and successful in their role. Private sector colleges and universities (PSCUs) open doors to many of the millions who are unemployed and undereducated by providing a skills-based education. The number of institutions, student enrollment, and degrees conferred by private sector schools has grown exponentially over the past decades in response to higher demand for the skills needed to enter the 21st century labor market or career advancement. Evidence shows a highly positive correlation between education, employment and earnings. All of the schools we work with have regional or national accreditation (and in many cases, both), by any one of the accrediting agencies approved of by the U.S. Department of Education. For a full list of accrediting agencies you can visit their website at: http://www.ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Agencies.aspx. This is also a great opportunity to emphasize that we care very much about our employees and that is why we offer the benefits of working from home, a flexible schedule, 401(k), paid time off, local open house events, holiday, and summer outings. We pride ourselves in delivering good quality leads; we evaluate an employee’s overall performance using various measures that promote high quality standards and not solely based on a representative’s ability to meet performance goals or “quotas”. We always want to hear from our current or former employees that have concerns as we have a firm commitment to continue providing a very positive and flexible work environment in which to work. As you know, we have an open door policy here so please contact HR or the owners directly if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks again for your comments.
