Our New York hub ran a meditative sound bath for our people to encourage relaxation and wellbeing. At our recent firm-wide meeting, we invited guest speaker Sean Mayberry, CEO of StrongMinds, to share the charity’s work on improving mental health care in low-income countries in sub-Saharan Africa, specifically among women. Our people had previously organised fundraising dinners to support StrongMinds, and we were delighted to hear how our donations have impacted more than 40+ families. When Berkeley consultant Murray Smith is not leading complex transformations for our clients, he serves on the board of The Jericho Project, a non-profit whose mission is to end homelessness in NYC. At our recent firm-wide meeting, Murray invited Jericho Project CEO Tori Lyon and Program Director Jonathan Castro to share an update on their progress, with a spotlight on the positive impact for the LGBTQ+ community. Berkeley is proud to contribute to the local NYC community and offers all employees five discretionary days per year to volunteer with our charity partners.
Berkeley takes on the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge again – now for the first time in New York! This is an old Berkeley favorite and we couldn’t be happier that the New York hub is starting a new tradition that the London office has enjoyed for many years. This event serves as a catalyst between work and wellness, so it is the perfect initiative for us to take part in. Our people’s wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do – and a little competition is always welcomed! Congratulations to the group that took part. We look forward to cheering on our London colleagues in July!
We had a wonderful time at this year's NYC Pride March, soaking up the cheers, colors and celebratory energy of the day. Berkeley prides itself on being an inclusive and safe space. Throughout UK Stress Awareness Month in April, our London office organised a range of activities to enhance our wellbeing and reduce stress. We enjoyed a delicious and healthy lunch together, and took time out for puppy therapy and in-office massages. Resilience and wellbeing trainer Pinky Jangra also joined our firm-wide monthly meeting as a guest speaker, sharing top tips for looking after ourselves and each other in times of stress. October was Black History Month, and we’re looking back over our New York office’s educational and celebratory events. Supporting this year’s theme of Black Resistance, our monthly meeting featured a moving presentation on the history of the Green Book, a road trip guide to help black Americans travel more safely and find businesses that would welcome them. We also reflected on the disproportionately low number of black-owned businesses today and signposted how we can better support such businesses in our community. It was only fitting that we held our special celebratory dinner at the incredible vegan soul food restaurant Cadence, part of Overthrow Hospitality. Executive chef Shenarri Freeman provided a personalized menu for us, featuring delicious family-style dishes. Our month concluded with a trip to Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater where we saw some pretty pro performances!
We are delighted to announce the launch of our Women’s Mentoring Programme, coinciding with our extended International Women’s Day celebrations this month. Learn more about how this initiative will help support our women, enabling them to succeed both professionally and personally.
