Pros

A small handful of coworkers that were great to work with…. Finding pleasant people to work with at this place was very difficult, so the few that were great were really great

Cons

Lack of structure — there is no real structure amongst the different teams (or hives as they like to call them) where you have too many hands in one pot! Too many inputs, for very little outputs. Instead of having a cohesive structure where each individual has a focus, you end up having several people all trying to work on the same thing or several people giving their own inputs as to how someone should do there job No employee development— the amount of employees here with very little skills here is horrific! This company is not setting anyone up for success. No training, coaching, or real career pathing. Unfortunately, some of the employees that have been here for a while will have tough time finding jobs elsewhere without getting any real foundational support from Brainlabs Upside down business focus — the company wants to focus on signing on “big fishes” aka big branded companies….. the issue with that is with what service offerings?? With what employees?? With what skills?? Compared to other agencies…. Brainlabs isn’t even offering half of the services or customer care their competitors are offering. Employees are already spread too thin to take the time necessary to service big clients LOW PAY — Not paying employees what they deserve is an outdated and unfair business practice. For the amount of work and time it takes to service clients, train team members, and pitch to new clients — brainlabs should at the very least offer market rates + bonuses (especially for a sales tactic like pitching) Last but not least UK overreach — UK team members that are working on the US side were extremely difficult to work with. Everyone has their own way of working…. But these particular team members were insistent on things being done their way and their way only. The working style is much more abrasive then it is on the US. Trying to get work done without any of them meddling or going behind your back was tiresome. The experience with them is honestly what made several team members miserable and ready to quit

Pros

The place to learn about SEO and PPC. They start challenging you from the beginning, giving you plenty of space and time to learn new things. You’ll notice right away that your work is trusted, allowing you to see how clients implement it and think of it.

Cons

Compensation: From conversations with colleagues, and employees at other agencies, Brainlabs pays significantly lower than most. Acquisition: After they acquired Distilled, Brainlabs reduced and downgraded the Distilled employees benefits package. Leadership: What once felt like leadership in each individual office could make rules that impact their own office, after the acquisition, that was no longer the case. The changes they want to make in each office now has to be approved by more people in leadership, making it harder to stay autonomous. Career Growth: You get to learn really fast, but there’s not a lot of opportunities to move up and receive promotions. A lot of that is dependent on company need and not necessarily your skills or experience.

Thank you for providing your feedback, but I am sorry to hear that your experience was not as positive as we would have hoped. You are right that over the last year + that there has been quite a bit of change in our organization since we merged with Brainlabs and built our new US Operations. Between the merge and the state of the world, we acknowledge that we experienced growing pains with this and have continued to evolve what we do. Throughout it all, we continue to collect regular feedback from our entire team both in-person and anonymously so we can make Brainlabs and even better place to work! This includes regularly evaluating compensation, benefits, and opportunities for promotion. We now review promotional opportunities every single month!

Pros

-training program is theoretically good if you happen to have good trainers -friendly HR -meetings stay on time/topic -work is interesting and varied -some fellow employees were helpful, though many left

Cons

(1) work-life balance felt way off, just like the salary is underpaid. I can't write a specific instance for fear of being sued for defamation (thank you Glassdoor for the scary "double check your strongly-worded review so we have proof you're saying it's true" warning). Let's just say I felt like I was highly discouraged to work outside of business hours, despite feeling pressure to finish all work even if it was too much, while ALSO being encouraged to say something if it was too much, but feeling as if I would endanger my performance if I said anything. I felt trapped. An environment like that can lead to all sorts of pressure that emphasizes the appearance of performing well/quickly, which could lead to people being taken advantage of by those assigning work, etc. Of course other teams or branches or even managers may feel very different in this regard. (2) it seems like your manager is your god. So if your manager does not care about your development, your work, or you, then you would not go anywhere, learn anything, or develop any skills. It felt like there were few protections against untrained, uncaring, abusive, or otherwise poor managers. Even with the "team of teams" model, don't worry about anyone else, make sure you please your manager above all others, just like any other company. (3) HR is lovely but has no teeth to protect employees who need protection outside of hard and fast legal protections (documented, harmful abuse against protected classes). I guess this is typical of most companies where people trample people to get to the top and HR can't or won't do anything. But it's still degrading to a low-level employee looking to learn to have no way to reconcile a situation, or be protected in some way My biggest complaint is that the way the company markets itself to potential employees (friendly! caring!) did not seem to match the actual workings once hired. It is MARKETING though so maybe that makes sense...

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We do have a strict process for investigating all complaints that are brought forward, and we have zero tolerance for retaliation. Feedback is the way that we continue to improve as a company, and we continue to gather and action feedback that is received. Specifically on the manager training program, we continue to make improvements to this, including launching a crash course for newly promoted and new joiner managers, as well as ongoing coaching and support.
