Seasonal

Pros

Flexible with hours as long as you meet quota. Pay is decent for entry level.

Cons

• Expectations were not clearly communicated — meeting the “goal” was actually mandatory, not optional as implied during onboarding. • Emphasis is placed on quantity over quality. The company prioritizes the number of questions answered rather than the accuracy or helpfulness of responses. For example, answering 100 questions hastily (and potentially incorrectly) is valued more than providing 50 well-researched, accurate answers in the same time. • Little to no opportunity for full-time employment. The company’s structure depends on 90%+ seasonal staff, even at headquarters. Management will often imply that full-time positions are possible (if you work hard enough), but in reality, the business model relies on keeping workers seasonal to avoid providing benefits.

Pros

Good discounts for clients available, flexibility in working hours during tax season, good training for office processes.

Cons

Terrible culture in office between employees, low pay, unexpected pay cut for preseason work, cliquish culture from one office to another. Other tax preparers spend as much time cutting each other down as they do preparing taxes. Management allows this behavior to continue.
