Pros

- Crazy-Good Benefits Not just the insurance and options, either. When I tell my friends and family about things like company trips they can't believe the benefits could be that good; they literally think they've misunderstood what I've told them. - Aggressive Compensation I was being underpaid at a larger company. If you're questioning how much you're worth, Lose It! may just prove its more than you think. - Meaningful, Robust Product Its really nice to work somewhere that is NOT a giant evil corporation shadily profiting by selling their user data. Lose It! is transparent, profitable, and really trying to help users.

Cons

- Big Codebase Lose It! is a robust product but that comes with a large codebase. Fortunately, Sr. Devs have great domain knowledge (because Lose It! works hard to retain their employees) and the code has only minor tech debt. Onboarding could use a little work but its actively being addressed. - Low Structure Company organization is relatively flat and there isn't a ton of structure (no stand ups, scrum, etc.). This con is really a pro for people who prefer to code rather than sit around in meetings. Unfortunately, it does contribute to... - Cross Team Communication Isn't Great We're working this. As it stands, we stumble a bit when product needs marketing to know X before customer care does Y. Management is aware of it and working to improve in this area as we grow. Fortunately, we're lean and agile enough to react quickly when this does cause us to stumble.

Pros

The biggest pro at this company is its transparency. From my experience, unless a question would violates someone's privacy, there is no question that will not receive a direct answer. It helps give me insight into what's going on in with the company big picture and gives me a sense of trust that the exec team is looking out for me. The company has amazing benefits. Since there are no investors to satisfy, Lose It! can focus on the two things that are most important: its users and its employees. And it shows with the amazing health care plan and the summer retreats to other countries (seriously... no other company does that) and too many other benefits to list here. The company is growing unlike other startups. With a focused, purpose-driven growth model, we have a controlled growth that allows for new hires to come in and have a more direct impact on the millions of users we are trying to help.

Cons

We did have some growing pains in the company culture as we grew from a small team into the company we have today. We're still working through those issues but I think the exec team has taken major efforts over the past year to eliminate those issues. Some of these issues have been noted in other reviews and I think they are being addressed. As I mentioned in the pros section, one of my favorite things about the company is its transparency. So if you are considering joining Lose It! and any reviews here are giving you pause, please don't dismiss us immediately. I encourage you to speak to us and ask the hard questions because we want to answer them.

Pros

They are working towards a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace, even if it took a bit to realize how important that is for employee engagement, happiness and success of the company. This group is willing to learn and educating it's executive team along with all other employees.. This group does care and are putting programs in place to support employees. Amazing benefits package - unmatched, really. It's hard to leave a company that takes such good care of their employees. Takes the company + family members on international retreats (previously to Paris and Barcelona). It allowed me to travel abroad and enjoy a month in those locations. It was a really incredible way to get to bond with the whole team.

Cons

They need to tighten up their hiring process. In the recent past, a few toxic people were hired who could've been weeded out had the right process and group of people been involved in hiring. Those toxic people then made it their mission to bad mouth the company when truly they were just not good fits for their positions or the team. Those toxic employees are no longer at the company. Manager training across the board-not just in the DEI space - employees are slipping through the cracks because managers are not able to empower their employees to do their best.

Thank you for recognizing our progress and for the words of support! Employee engagement is a priority for us and after deploying our second employee survey this year, we are learning more about where we are making progress and where we have more work to do in this space. Relationships are important to us and negativity within the teams isn’t aligned with who we are and who we want to be. As we grow in size, we continue to build on our foundation to ensure we have the right tools, shared values, the best candidates to choose from and great managers in place to lead our teams forward. Focus in 2021 will be on our recruitment processes to ensure we are putting our best foot forward when identifying and recruiting new talent. Thank you for your time at Lose It! Please stay in touch!
