Pros

Flexibility - unlimited PTO for exempt associates

Cons

The people here are very political NO job growth They promote people without allowing other people to apply for same job They play favoritism wayyyy too much. If you are not a favorite do not look for them to develop you. They lack development and this is why they are unable to retain employees. Constant revolving door of employees Sent out a racist black history month newsletter

I want to respond to a few of your comments, as they’re not aligned with the culture we’re proud to have built at SimpliSafe. First and foremost, please reach out to me directly--I’m disappointed to hear how you feel about working here, and I’d like to see how we can address your concerns and better support you. On two of your comments: one of the things I’m most proud of in terms of our SimpliSafe culture is the progress we’ve made from a DEI perspective. We’ve come a long way in the past year alone - launching Employee Resource Groups, building a roadmap to create meaningful change, and celebrating who our employees are as people. Even with the best of intentions, there have been times when we’ve misstepped or not gotten it all right, but we don’t shy away from those tough conversations. We’re grateful to have a culture where people come forward, share their perspectives and where we can have a healthy dialogue because we take accountability for our actions. The other thing I’m proud of is the progress we’ve made in terms of our investment in employees’ development and growth. As our company grows, so do our people. We’ve rolled out a new annual performance cycle that has employees setting and discussing personal development goals regularly. We’ve also launched a new manager training series, offer tuition reimbursement and have plans to invest in other development tools in this new fiscal year. And we're committed to posting new positions to our internal job board. We see this in our internal mobility results with about 25% of our tenured employees promoted or transferred into a new job last year. I hope that you will take this current opportunity to discuss your personal growth with your manager, and also encourage you to reach out to me or a People Partner directly. --Ai-Li Lim

A terrible place to work

Pros

Not much - Unlimited PTO is nice

Cons

I can't think of enough cons about this place - it's absolute chaos all the time - so disorganized, constantly understaffed. They love to say "no ego" but then when it comes down to asking a senior employee to follow a pretty basic procedure, upper management will tell you that employee gets special treatment. Pay is mediocre and they refuse to hire extra people to help with the workload. They're investing insane amounts of money in new buildings and vanity management positions but don't compensate their workers fairly for the amount of time and stress they put in. They're used to hiring eager kids right out of college and paying them next to nothing to work long hours for the experience, but now that they are a large company hiring more senior employees in roles, it's clear that they don't know how to work with more experienced employees. Upper management is so detached from the regular workforce. They grew way too fast and didn't hire enough day-to-day positions to keep up with the rapidly increasing business. they put on a good show and advertise things like hybrid remote work, flexible hours and unlimited PTO but in reality people are working extremely long hours just to keep up and management comes down on staff for not getting stuff done even when folks are working constantly. Turnover is so high because people just can't keep putting up with the chaos and long hours. This is a truly terrible place to work, a wolf in sheep's clothing. I do not recommend working here. Run far away.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I’m sorry that you felt this way while working with us. As you mentioned, SimpliSafe is growing - not just our business, but also our team. We’ve experienced double-digit growth in our team in the past few years. It’s important to us that our teams are well-staffed and able to deliver on our mission. Of course, growing and adding new employees isn’t without its growing pains, which is why we continue to invest in enhancing our onboarding process, manager training and technology resources to set all SimpliSafers up for success. We absolutely encourage people to take time away - both using our PTO benefits (unlimited for salaried positions) and through “recharge” days throughout the year. If any of our employees don't feel supported in doing so, this is a problem - and I encourage them to talk to their manager and contact the People Team or me so we can address it. Finally, I want to address your comments about our compensation. We’re proud to offer "total rewards" packages made up of both cash compensation and benefits that are actively benchmarked so that we can be competitive, if not above, the market. While I wish we could’ve connected on your points of view while you were still at SimpliSafe, I appreciate you sharing the feedback. --Ai-Li Lim

Pros

Some of the highlights: Close knit group Very friendly, helpful people Flexible work environment Good work/life balance Growing rapidly and performing well

Cons

They’re getting cheaper by the day, and are now charging employees for apparel. Yes, employees now pay for their SimpliSafe branded shirts and hoodies. Holiday bonus is now gone. We constantly stock out of inventory because we’re “running lean”. There is practically no communication or transparency from leadership. Departures and promotions go unannounced. We read about recent funding in a newspaper article. New hires just show up on Zoom without any introduction from management. When they do get introduced, the manager does all the talking and the new employee doesn’t even get face time or the chance to speak for themselves. Cannot get a new product right. Constant delays and false starts. Very discouraging for a company who claims to be innovative. As we grow, there are more and more levels of Directors and Sr. Directors added to the teams. This is creating several layers of management and manager level employees having less and less autonomy and control.
