Pros

RES has a great set of cultural values, espousing a people-first management style. As a private company, there is little danger of whimsical change due to investor pressure. Lots of amazing people work at RES, and they have continued to attract some more solid performers. There are programs for advancement, but I was never witness in my department or others of any explicit career pathing or progression plans. I recommend asking to see these early in your interviewing or employment. In the Americas, compensation is pretty good and the benfits packages are very good. Overall, RES could be a great place to work depending on how the current volatility shakes out and if the upper management will adhere to the purported culture that HR and the family owners claim RES is about.

Cons

Recent management changes have allowed some managers to not adhere to the stated management approach. Caveat emptor prospective and recently added employees. Though the owners continue to focus on the mission of the company, a rotating door of executive leadership over the past decade in the Americas has caused a lot of volatility in how the company is run and how it feels to work there. Also, the recent (summer 2024) pivot in the operating model to lines-of-business under globalized leadership again changes this paradigm leading to further uncertainty in the near term. While lots of amazing people work at RES, the company has yet to truly mature beyond the "startup" mode of relying on great individuals to do a good job. There are still too many spreadsheets and manually created and managed documents used to run the organization. The light at the end of this tunnel may be the new ERP solution recently implemented, if the operation and support of the system can be resolved (as both an employee and a manager, the launch was horrendous); then, the company will need to appropriately staff business analysts and system analysts to develop and implement processes in the platform (much of the problem with the launch stemmed from doing this poorly).

No clear path

Pros

Its a good starting point when you are new to the solar industry.

Cons

As an admin, there is no clear path for advancement. We take on many responsibilities, yet we remain in regular craft positions rather than moving into management roles. The company needs to offer a higher hourly rate, as the current pay is too low, and also increase the per diem. Additionally, we are often overlooked during annual reviews. I've observed that in this workplace, advancement is difficult unless you are family or a friend of someone in management. Furthermore, management seems to overlook the fact that we are hourly employees, and being off work for two weeks or more during the holidays has a significant impact on our finances. The rollout of the new system has been poorly managed, and the training provided has been inadequate. Without proper training, it's challenging to perform our jobs effectively and efficiently.

Your feedback regarding hourly rates and per diem will be shared with our People & Culture team for further evaluation, and we encourage you to speak with your supervisor or your People & Culture Business Partner to request a compensation review. • Career advancement: We understand the importance of having clear pathways for advancement. While we strive to recognize and reward hard work, we acknowledge that there is always room for improvement. Your suggestions will help us reassess how we can better support employees in progressing within the company. • End-of-year impact: We recognize that holiday downtime can create financial challenges for hourly employees. We will take this into consideration as we review our policies to balance business needs with employee well-being. • New system and training: We understand that the rollout of the new ERP system has presented challenges. Training is a priority, and we are working to enhance the available resources to ensure all employees feel confident using the new system. RES is also deeply committed to a culture of fairness and inclusivity. Your observation regarding the perception of favoritism in advancement will be taken seriously, and we will continue working to improve transparency in our processes.
